🌍 Study in Canada with the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program at UBC

This program fully funds selected African students to pursue Master’s degrees in top fields while preparing them to become transformative leaders in their communities.

🎓 Who Can Apply?

To be eligible, applicants must:

  • Hold a Bachelor’s degree (and not already have a Master’s).
  • Be 35 years old or younger (born in 1990 or after).
  • Be a citizen or refugee of an African country.
  • Meet UBC’s minimum academic requirements for graduate programs.
  • If previous studies were not taught in English, provide TOEFL or IELTS results.

📚 Eligible Master’s Programs

The scholarship applies to the following UBC programs only:

Faculty of Land and Food Systems

  • Master of Food and Resource Economics (MFRE)
  • Master of Food Science (MFS)
  • Master of Land and Water Systems (MLWS)

Faculty of Forestry

  • Master of Sustainable Forest Management (MSFM)
  • Master of International Forestry (MIF)
  • Master of Geomatics for Environmental Management (MGEM)
  • Master of Science/Master of Applied Science in Forestry (Thesis-based)

Faculty of Science

  • Master of Data Science

  • August 30, 2025 → Applications open for Winter 2026 intake.
  • September 12, 2025 → Submit your Expression of Interest.
  • October 15, 2025 → Eligible applicants invited to apply to the Mastercard Scholars Program.
  • November 26, 2025 → Deadline to apply to your UBC Faculty.

⚠️ Late applications will not be considered.

  • Personal statements answering guiding questions.
  • Updated CV/Resume.
  • Two reference letters (on official letterhead).
  • Academic transcripts.
